Acrylic Abstract cont.

Wicked Literal 5.1

I went back and "added" a few more layers to the original painting.  I was not completely happy with the piece and I felt something was missing.  I must have looked and watched the piece for days before finally "seeing" what needed to be done

Calgary Zoo Spring 2011 cont

Need a Bear Hug?

a group of Red Pandas (3 in total) were out playing in the morning sun. For the most part, these guys are always asleep in there small wooden "house" and one is never able to get any pictures. Well, this particular morning, all three were out playing in the trees and I was, finally, able to get some shots of this beautiful animal.

Computer attitude issues

Our main computer has begun its death throws and I have started using "string and duct tape" to keep it together. This being said, I will try to keep posting when I can. Unfortunately, at this time, the option of getting a new systems is not possible.Currently using our netbook to make this post. Have a few options and will give these a try. This will be for the Sam's World blog as well. So, until next time, Enjoy your May long weekends, whether it be Victoria Day or Memorial Day!!

Calgary Zoo Spring 2011

Spirit

Went back for a visit at the zoo. I got there right as the gates were opening in the morning and was able to get some shots of the animals before they went into hiding. Most are out in the early morning and on this particular day, a lot of the animals were out lying in the sun.

while finishing up some abstract work, I'll keep the blog running with pictures from the zoo visit.

Interlude

1249

an "interlude" piece while I prepare some more acrylic pieces. This piece started as a sketch that was scanned into Photoshop, then copied, rotated, copied again and so forth up to the point that I had roughly 20 layers of effects going on. I sometimes get lost in the process of these because my focus is very intense.

Seems to effect my hearing as well, missed the dinner call while working on this one.

Element: Earth

18X24ins
acrylic on canvas

This painting is the first in a series of five for an abstract representation of the five elements: Earth, Fire, Metal, Water, and Air.

So far I have completed Earth and Fire.

These "elements" are used in the Chinese Zodiac.  General knowledge is that the Chinese zodiac is a 12 year cycle, one year for each of the 12 animals.  It is actually a 60 year cycle, because each animal as the year comes up, is associated with one of the elements.

Blood in the Stream

Something new, and not done in a while, for the few posts. Over the past several weeks, I have been doing some traditional acrylic work in addition to my digital work.
I have a few acrylic abstract paintings on my website, but it has been a while since I did some new work. A painting will usually take me two to three weeks to complete and I usually have at least three going at a time. Paint, work on another while the first one is drying and so on. So, the next few (I believe I was working on more than three) posts will be acrylic abstracts from this past painting session.

Water Dreaming

Just finished this one and wanted to post it as soon as possible. The "pattern" on this one is originally a watercolor painting I did and was unhappy with. I cut out the areas of the painting I liked (ended up with 4 "squares") and scanned each square into Photoshop intending to use these as "backgrounds" for future digital abstract pieces. I have, so far, completed 2 digital paintings with the squares. (The second will be posted in a series I am currently working on)
The colors in the final digital paintings are not the colors of the watercolor painting.
