Years In Review - The Mask: No. 18

this particular mas is unusual (for me) for one simple thing. It involves the colour. I, personally, do not like to use the colour "green" heavily in a piece. This was an exercise to step out of my comfort zone.

Years in Review - The Mask No. 9

another re-working. I changed the colour of the mask by scanning  a section of one of my acrylic abstract paintings and changing the background to black.

Years in Review - The Mask No. 08

this is an older design that I went back and re-worked. The original mask was drawn/scanned around 2001 and I dis the rework about two months ago. The original was a completely black background with glowy "tentacles" where the negative space is now.

Years in Review - The Mask No. 07

One has to look closely at the piece to see the three mask images. The background in this piece is a scanned section of a hand-dyed silk scarf I did while in school.

Years in Review - The Mask No. 04

this is probably one of my favorite early mask images. This is one of the first mask images I had prints made and actually sold a few!

Years in Review - The Mask No. 03

still experimenting with "effects" in Photoshop. Our first Photoshop program was the 5.5 edition. Long Long time ago in the Photoshop "world". One thing that has not changed in this time is that I still draw all the mask images by hand and scan, create a .tif file for Photoshop.

Years in Review - The Mask No. 02

same mask, different views

The Mask Review No. 01

this mask was either the second or third mask sketch I experimented with. I have close to 149 cd's with artwork saved and this one was on number 1! (yes, i use flash drives now to save artwork on)

Years in Review: The Mask

Well, was not planning on having anything "new", but started designing "ad post cards" for the "Mask Review" coming up in December. I have ended up designing a few of these "ads" so I'll post 'em every once in a while as a reminder of the two month long event. So, enjoy the post cards!!

"Years in Review" 2012

Actual posts of new work for the next little while will be few. I am getting together a "Years in Review 2012" show of my Mask designs, that will be a daily feature on the blog for the month of December and January, with a "special" viewing of some past and new Christmas themed mask designs coming up during the week of Christmas.

I am going back as far as I have work saved digitally (around the turn of the century) and combing through and picking out the designs I like most. Some are "as is" and some will be re-worked as new interpretations come about while viewing the images. So, some new, some old, some that are special will be posted as the cold days of winter pass us by.

Not Subject...

Not Subject...

this one takes it title from a few words I wrote a few days ago:

Not subject to your judgement,
nor slave to your opinion.
Not grouped into your popularity,
nor on knees for your praise.

Not climbing your ivory pedestal,
nor feeling the weight of your boot.
Not singing for your attention,
nor following in your shadow.

Not paying for your endorsement
nor camping in your tent.
Not willing to do whatever,
nor compromise whatever needs.

your position has no meaning
outside the shell of yourself.
your words have no strength
from the hollows of your mouth.

I am aware of you and
I choose to ignore you
