looking back on this piece, it remains one of my favourites. I would love to have this piece "made" in a 3D representation, more likely in metal and as a pendant. Could be used as a weapon as well.

After taking the picture, I ventured underneath the deck hoping NOT to find any prairie dog holes. none were found but we put some sonic noise makers (silent to human hearing) in and around the deck to keep the little furry guys and gals from moving in!

another piece that started directly with Photoshop. No sketch to scan in for this one. Actually, I had forgotten about this piece because of work (day job and Sam's World). It was pretty much done, but I wanted to set it "aside" for a few days and have a look at it again with "fresh eyes". A few days turned into a few weeks, but it is finished and I am pleased with the result!

McKenzie Town Pond

this is actually a "flood drainage" pond that one of the bike/pedestrian paths goes around. The pond is home to ducks, geese (only a stop over), gulls, and a few muskrats. This pond will ice over deep enough so one can walk from one side to the other.

There are houses all along the perimeter, but I have "removed" the houses from this image.

I like it better without the houses.

Candy Store

The title comes specifically from the colours used in this piece. The colours reminded me of the candy that were in bins at the candy stores that were around in my youth. One could buy candy by the pound or piece. Row upon row of these bins would sit side by side and one could taste the colour and need shades to handle the brightness!

Ghost Fragments

background is a indigo/potassium hand-dyed (with gloves on) cotton piece. This particular background image was a small section of the piece. Basically using the entire scanning surface of the scanner. The mask imagery is from a drawing and then using "effects" to achieve the appearance you now see.

I will be taking some time off on both blogs (this one and Sam's World) for vacation and to get some personal artwork done. See ya toward the end of September!

this was one of my first pieces that I used traditional work and re-worked the piece digitally. The original piece was a hand-dyed indigo and potassium piece I did as a school project. Using Photoshop to manipulate the piece, I came up with three images:

I did a fairly large piece and split the final work into four pieces. None of the "pieces" fit together seamlessly. All four pieces overlap each other somewhere. I don't know where, the pieces were made randomly. Lots of detail and depth in these, with many layers during the process.

these pictures I took are of a "Tagu" a rather medium size (this one was 2 and a half feet long from snout to tip of tail) The skin of the tagu feels like rows of embroidered beads. As long as one keeps hands away from the face, these creatures are pretty relaxed and seem to accept human contact. However, should one feel threatened (ie, waving your hand in front of their face) one might lose a few fingers due to very fast reflexes of the animal.

Have not posted for a while because I have not drawn or painted anything for a while. Summer always sees a drop off of my own personal work for whatever reasons. "Sam's World" keeps me busy for the most part. Lot of odd holidays during the summer that I draw specific SW cartoons for.
Will be heading to DragonCon in Atlanta in just over a month. I love this trip because the con happens to be in my home town and I get a chance to see family and old friends while there! Be spending a couple of days in Savannah as well!! Janice and I will make this an annual vacation for as long as possible.

This next series of work begins with my past acrylic work, re-worked digitally (in Photoshop).
I have picked several abstract acrylic paintings, those I feel will work with the idea I have for this series, and made a digital copy of the piece to start the process. That is it for the "planning". Where I go from there is up to my mood, imagination, and desire. I have several completed thus far and the process from start to finish has varied greatly. Several hours to several days has been the range thus far. All the work thus far has been "gut reaction" as various effects, colors, and layers are experimented with. I plan to continue with this type of process for the remainder of the series.

a group of Red Pandas (3 in total) were out playing in the morning sun. For the most part, these guys are always asleep in there small wooden "house" and one is never able to get any pictures. Our main computer has begun its death throws and I have started using "string and duct tape" to keep it together. This being said, I will try to keep posting when I can. Went back for a visit at the zoo. I got there right as the gates were opening in the morning and was able to get some shots of the animals before they went into hiding. Most are out in the early morning and on this particular day, a lot of the animals were out lying in the sun.

an "interlude" piece while I prepare some more acrylic pieces. This piece started as a sketch that was scanned into Photoshop, then copied, rotated,copied again and so forth up to the point that I had roughly 20 layers of effects going on. I sometimes get lost in the process of these because my focus is very intense.

Seems to effect my hearing as well, missed the dinner call while working on this one.

This painting is the first in a series of five for an abstract representation of the five elements: Earth, Fire, Metal, Water, and Air.

So far I have completed Earth and Fire.

These "elements" are used in the Chinese Zodiac. General knowledge is that the Chinese zodiac is a 12 year cycle, one year for each of the 12 animals. It is actually a 60 year cycle, because each animal as the year comes up, is associated with one of the elements.

Something new, and not done in a while, for the few posts. Over the past several weeks, I have been doing some traditional acrylic work in addition to my digital work.
I have a few acrylic abstract paintings on my website, but it has been a while since I did some new work. A painting will usually take me two to three weeks to complete and I usually have at least three going at a time. Paint, work on another while the first one is drying and so on. So, the next few (I believe I was working on more than three) posts will be acrylic abstracts from this past painting session.

Just finished this one and wanted to post it as soon as possible. The "pattern" on this one is originally a watercolor painting I did and was unhappy with. I cut out the areas of the painting I liked (ended up with 4 "squares") and scanned each square into Photoshop intending to use these as "backgrounds" for future digital abstract pieces. I have, so far, completed 2 digital paintings with the squares. (The second will be posted in a series I am currently working on)
The colors in the final digital paintings are not the colors of the watercolor painting.
