Sharpie Art: Pt 6

Abstract Face

For this piece, only "half" of the mask was hand-drawn. I then scanned the half image into Photoshop, duplicated and flipped horizontally to create a mirrored second half and came up with the complete image that you see. I had thought about adding some color to the piece and did use several reds but felt that the color distracted from the line work, which, for me, was the main focus of the piece. I ended up feeling the piece was best with it being a black and white work.  I did save the "eyes" and may use those in an upcoming mask design.

Mural No. 2

Double Watch

this mural was completed earlier this week and resides along the outside wall of my studio.  It took me some time to get this one completed because of neck and arm soreness that came about when painting in certain positions for a longer time than I should have been. (must remember to stretch during the longer painting periods)

I continued with the mask theme for this one, making the larger mask more abstract and using the colors themselves to define the mask outline for the smaller mask.

I am now done with the murals inside the house (or until we get the basement "finished") but will be looking to work "large" again should an opportunity present itself.

Cheers!!

Sharpie Art (Part Five)

March

I believe this one shows the title easily. However, the "figure" came about unplanned. In fact, I had drawn this piece vertically flipped from the view at present. I love when this happens during the process. With all of the pen and ink work, I start with a blank sheet and draw lines. During this piece the title came to me after I had set the sketchbook down and saw the image inverted (as it is now). At that point, the piece was finished.

Samurai Spirit

Samurai Spirit

this piece is actually a small section or part of larger image. While working on the larger image, I noticed this "second" image.  Since I draw quite of few mask images, this particular image made me think of the Japanese Samurai crests and masks seen in some of the period films that I have watched.  I enlarged the area and tweaked a few areas with effects and color and "presto" I had a "abstract" mask piece I was very happy with.  Enjoy!!

Expressive Series No.10

Expressive Reloaded

Number ten in the "Expressive" Series. This one continues the overlapping and distortion effects used in the past few images for this series. I went heavy with the saturation effect on this one. I like the vibrant blue and greens in this piece which are a result of the saturation of one layer over another. The "reloaded" portion of the title comes from mixing in a layer from an older piece. Re-loading it and using it to effect the overall vision of this piece.

Enjoy!!
