New Work
Peacock Coat
another piece that started directly with Photoshop. No sketch to scan in for this one. Actually, I had forgotten about this piece because of work (day job and Sam's World). It was pretty much done, but I wanted to set it "aside" for a few days and have a look at it again with "fresh eyes". A few days turned into a few weeks, but it is finished and I am pleased with the result!
enjoy!

Winter Walk (cont)
Early Morning Frost
taken by the same pond as the bench, but down the path a bit further. One can see the frozen pond in this picture.

Random, new maybe old
Lamp Mischief
I cannot remember if this has been posted before. I'm too lazy to back through the archives. But I do like this piece because it started out as an abstract sketch that took a life of its own and became a female figure. (a rather "genie in a bottle" concept)

Digital Abstract
Chickens, Ducks, Dolls, and Skulls
this one probably needs a explanation for the title. Quite simple really! The four objects that make up the title are what I see in the artwork. Other than that, just chalk it up as another weird one from the mind of the artist!

Pictures from the Neighbourhood 01
McKenzie Town Pond
October 2011
this is actually a "flood drainage" pond that one of the bike/pedestrian paths goes around. The pond is home to ducks, geese (only a stop over), gulls, and a few muskrats. This pond will ice over deep enough so one can walk from one side to the other.
There are houses all along the perimeter, but I have "removed" the houses from this image.
I like it better without the houses.

Lounging Beauty
Another rare shot, this time from the pond within a half hour walk of the house. It looks "posed" but a steady hand on a zoom shot gave me a good opportunity to catch Janice in a relaxed position.

Port Below
recent abstract work. I went on a run and produced several images from one sketch done through photoshop CS3. I'll be posting the artwork over the next several days.

Supreme
have not done a mask in a while. this one took several days to get done. Could not get the "top" of the mask to work for me. After several re-works, it is completed.

September Vacation
a very "rare" picture of my sweetie! This pic was taken at the beach on Tybee Island, Georgia. I worked some colour effects into the pic. This would have to be my favourite picture of her thus far.

Last of the Old stuff (for now)
Candy Store
The title comes specifically from the colours used in this piece. The colours reminded me of the candy that were in bins at the candy stores that were around in my youth. One could buy candy by the pound or piece. Row upon row of these bins would sit side by side and one could taste the colour and need shades to handle the brightness!

Early Favs pt 7
Ghost Fragments
background is a indigo/potassium hand-dyed (with gloves on) cotton piece. This particular background image was a small section of the piece. Basically using the entire scanning surface of the scanner. The mask imagery is from a drawing and then using "effects" to achieve the appearance you now see.
I will be taking some time off on both blogs (this one and Sam's World) for vacation and to get some personal artwork done. See ya toward the end of September!

Early Favs pt 5
Impression
an early hand-dyed, wax resist cotton piece, re-worked digitally. I added the mask image during the digital component of the process.

Early Favs pt 4
one of those abstract sketches that took a life of its own. No "plan" for this drawing, just turned out as you see it. I really love these drawings because there are no expectations of what the finished drawing needs to look like.

Early Favs pt 2
Ishmael, Thunderbird, and Ares
this was one of my first pieces that I used traditional work and re-worked the piece digitally. The original piece was a hand-dyed indigo and potassium piece I did as a school project. Using Photoshop to manipulate the piece, I came up with three images:
top: Ishmael ( I had recently read Daniel Quinn's "Ishmael", main character was a gorilla)
middle: the Thunderbird
bottom Ares, God of War

Early Favs pt 1
Into the Maw
the next few posts will be of some earlier work. Alot of the work you will see was produced back in the first several years of new century. My first foray into producing work digitally and re-working some traditional work digitally. This would be my "beginning" point with using the computer as a tool for my artistic expressions.
So sit back and join me in a visit down memory lane!
