Acrylic Work (pt 2)
Mud Flow
this piece was fun. Great big globs of acrylic paint were just dropped on the canvas. I then used a brush to loosely mix colors of a layer, wait to dry, and then do the same thing again and again. The thickness that built up reminded me of mud flows, rambling down, coming to a stop and settling and finally drying. I added a "top" layer of thick black and white for a bit of contrast.
Enjoy!!

Acrylic Work (pt 1)
Wicked Literal 5
(The words "wicked literal" come from dialogue spoken in the television show "Bones" that my wife and I watch repeatedly.)
The title I came up with for this piece was simply "5" because I used only five colors. My wife commented that I was being "wicked literal" in this title. I had a good laugh and decided to include her comment in the title.
As may be seen by some, the influence of Jackson Pollock can be noted in this piece. I see Pollock as a strong influence on my abstract work, especially my acrylic paintings. As started with this piece, it is about the process. How the paint drips, splats, drops, flung and the patterns made from this, is my focus and path. I started small, but will be moving to bigger pieces.
The only downside to this is that I will have to move into the garage to work on the bigger pieces and may have to wait till Spring to really "do some paintin". It will be messy because I do not want to hold back or have in limitations while painting. I have several small (like this one) pieces in various stages and will get these posted once completed.
I am really interested in comments on this piece and future abstract acrylics. Please leave a note if you can!
Enjoy!!

Sharpie Art (Part Ten)
Alien Swim
Once finishing this one, the figure seemed to be some sort of alien sea horse. This has been one of the best things to come out of line drawings. I have no idea what the end result will be. The "title" will usually come to me during the drawing. Once I have this, I usually stop drawing because the piece is finished. A few of the drawings I have gone further. This piece I scanned the image into Photoshop and duplicated the alien sea horse. Others, I have added on to when a second idea occurs while drawing. One never knows when the process will be done.
Could be today, could be tomorrow, might not be till next week.

Painted Series Part Two
Painted Satisfaction
This guy looks pretty satisfied. Got that "cheesy" grin that goes with the "I have what I want" look. In my mind, this guy is nodding his head, ever so slightly, up and down.
Cheers and Enjoy!!

Painted Series Part One
Painted Enjoyment
The pieces in this series are all mask images. Nearly all of mask designs that will be seen in this series were inspired from my trip to Maui two summers ago. My influences for my mask designs took on another component with the many tiki masks that can be seen everywhere on the islands. My other influences include the Kabuki theatre in Japan and the First Nations totem designs, particularly of the Northwest Pacific region.
These masks were drawn, then scanned, and color added in Photoshop. when the piece was finished, the first emotion I felt when I viewed the piece fresh, (usually the next day) the emotion became part of the title.
This piece made me feel that the "mask" or "character" was having a "good time" enjoying whatever it may have been doing or getting ready to do.
More to come. Enjoy!

Sharpie Art (Part Eight)
Rope Bridge
Once again, the title for this piece came to me while drawing the image. Fairly simple concept and easily expressed in this piece.
What the bridge links together remains a mystery that your imagination will need to decide!!
Enjoy

Sharpie Art (Part Seven)
Super Chicken
I believe this one is pretty much obvious where the title came from. I drew this one in about one hour. Since this drawing, I have had to re-address my body position while drawing. One of the hazards that I have to keep an eye on is body posture. Sitting in an awkward position for a long period of time can be painful when moving out of that position. So I have had to learn to take "Stretches" periodically and ultimately find a better position to draw in. Since doing so my neck has been less of a "pain in the neck" so to speak!
